Lyrics

Canonical song text
I wore myself solid.Answer over answer.By the time the shaking reached my mouth,it had already learned one shape.
I kept my face where I had put it.Every mistake got a lid. When a feeling kicked the wall,I pressed my palm across the sound. When it came in two directions,I starved the louder one of air.I called the silence discipline. My pulse kept knocking from downstairs.
I wore myself solid, good behavior drying hard.Nothing in me had to spillif nothing in me learned to turn.I mistook the weight for proof:if I was heavy, I was here.
Then one certainty came loose. No thunder. No collapse.Just a seam I had forgottenand air touching skin again.I laughed where I meant to hide.Wanted back what I had buried.Tenderness came in with anger;neither one would leave. My mouth made room for both of them.I did not vanish in the change.
I wore myself solid. Now the cracks do not ask permission.A rough note lives beside a clear one. Both of them can use my name.I thought less would leave a hole.Instead the room inside me moves.
I leave one feeling with its mouth open.Another crosses through it sideways. My edge gives under its own weightand still comes back when I breathe.Anger lies down beside tenderness.Fear keeps shaking. I let it shake. No single note has to be my witness. My name survives the chord.
I wore myself solidbecause weight felt like evidence. Now I loosen one hard answer, then another.Something wider answers back. Not healed. Not finished.Still mine, and no longer one shape.
I leave the edge unfinished. It keeps meeting more of me.
